Description
In accordance with the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, the Atom Advisory Notice Electrical Bonding label is designed to be affixed to an installation to inform the responsible person that equipotential bonding might be necessary and should be carried out by a competent person.
Guidance
With regards to maintaining electrical continuity, the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations state under Regulation 10:
- In any case where it is necessary to prevent danger, no person shall carry out work in relation to a gas fitting without using a suitable bond to maintain electrical continuity until the work is completed and permanent electrical continuity has been restored.
Supporting this regulation, British Standard 6891 (Specification for the installation and maintenance of low-pressure gas installation pipework of up to 35 mm (R1ΒΌ) on premises) it states:
- When new pipework is installed, the installer of the pipework shall, where they are competent to do so, carry out the installation of any necessary bonding at the time of the installation.
Regulation 18(2) requires that any person who connects any installation pipework to a primary meter, in any case where equipotential bonding might be necessary, has to inform the responsible person for the premises that such bonding should be carried out by a competent person. On existing installations where a main protective bonding conductor might be necessary, the operative should pass such notification to the responsible person.
